Granfondo Tre Valli Varesine, lakes and valleys entwined with cycling

October is a magical month in the Lombardy lakes. Autumn slowly, but inescapably, settles in the hills. Green and leafy, dampened by the first rains and tinged with brown due to the falling of the leaves. Clouds settle in the forests, hiding the treetops.

This is the charm of the lakes, on the shores of which Varese is located and where a double celebration is taking place this October.

The first celebration is the 100th Tre Valli Varesine, one of the most popular late summer and early autumn classics in the Italian calendar. The S.C. Alfredo Binda has been involved since the very start back in 1929.

"The centenary of the Tre Valli Varesine is a great source of pride for us. Few Italian races have reached this important milestone. My thanks go to all those people whose commitment and dedication have made us proud of our club name: institutions, club members and partners. Thanks to all those who have contributed to the history of the S.C. Alfredo Binda and today allow us to cross the finish line", says Renzo Oldani, president of S.C. Alfredo Binda.

It all started in a Varese café, with Antonio Ambrosetti and the legendary Alfredo Binda, one of the best Italians cyclists, bringing together the best of local cycling and creating races and activities that make the sport so special to Varese.

This is also how the Granfondo Tre Valli Varesine was born five years ago, a non-competitive cycle tour that Gobik is honoured to support, now in the fifth running of the event.

Two tests in one

Scheduled for the weekend of 2 and 3 October, the Granfondo Tre Valli Varesine offers a full cycling programme spread over two days. On Saturday there is a time trial where participants can test themselves on a closed circuit which is the same for everybody.

Sunday is the main event.

Three valleys, Valcuvia, Valganna and Valtravaglia, make up a race that has two options, medium-distance which is 103 kilometres long with over 1,400 metres of elevation gain, and long-distance which is 130 kilometres long with almost 2,000 metres of elevation gain. Two options passing through the varied landscapes of the area between the lakes of Varese, Maggiore and Ceresio.

Participants will wear the jersey that Gobik has designed for this very special occasion: “We are proud of this new collaboration with the Gobik brand, which also represents a link with the sponsor of our event: Eolo. We are happy to wear the jerseys of a brand that is also worn in international competitions".

For S.C. Alfredo Binda SC, the Granfondo Tre Valli Varesine is a flagship event that is included in the UCI best events rankings. This same circuit was the venue for the 2018 Gran Fondo World Cup, and is included in next year's Gran Fondo World Cup. Quality cycling and a good end to the season.
